Historical Horror Game 2024
HUMANITERROR
Humaniterror is an educational, but entertaining video game aiming to teach young people (aged 12-15) about history in an engaging, attention grabbing, and memorable way. Humaniterror uses the genre of horror and the medium of video games to lead a player through “Choose Your Own Adventure” style storylines, following the real life events of a selection of historical disasters, allowing the player to learn about the real setting, choices, and dangers of a given event.
PROBLEM
Young people in our current technology landscape often have difficulties paying attention in traditional learning environments, making subjects like history hard to teach and to conceptualize.
SOLUTION
Humaniterror follows various storylines, allowing the player to choose from five historical disasters to learn about, the great Chicago fire of 1871, the dust bowl of 1935, the Chernobyl nuclear disaster of 1986, the Deepwater Horizon oil spill of 2010, and the Tohoku disaster of 2011. In each scenario the player follows a character, discovering the setting and trying to survive the dangers they face.
